The owners speak. Their position now is that they did act hamhandedly, but they have still shifted the burden to favor poltical correctness over freedom of speech. Here is the standard that Barak Berkowitz, Six Apart Chairman and CEO, lays out:

Another issue we needed to deal with was journals that used a thin veneer of fictional or academic interest in events and storylines that include child rape, pedophilia, and similar themes in order to actually promote these activities. While there are stories, essays, and discussions that include discussion of these issues in an effort to understand and prevent them, others use a pretext to promote these activities. It’s often very hard to tell the difference. As such, we intended to have suspend reported journals that do not clearly and substantially object to these a reasonable person would think supported these activities. while at the same time portraying them.[Strikes are in the original]
So, you are still taking your chances when you write or post fantasies. When it comes to the enjoyment of the darker themes of sex, such as rape fantasies and fantasies of unerage sex, the situation remains as dire as before, unless, of course, your are making a public service announcement against the acts or discussing literature, blah. Nabokov might have failed to meet this standard.

It is reported that Brad, the original owner and father of LJ, is away on vacation. I like to fancy that he is away trying to soothe his anger and resentment over the Disney-ification of his creation.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been becoming more vocal these days on the Supreme Court, in expressing her dissent to the new conservative majority on the bench:

She may have concluded that her side’s interests are better served by appealing not to the court’s majority but to the public. “She’s sounding an alarm and wants people to take notice,” said Debra L. Ness, president of the National Partnership for Women and Families, an advocacy group that focuses on the workplace.
Ah, but there really is no holding back the flooding tide...

The storm continues to rage on LiveJournal. PervertedJustice.com has come up with a fascinating statement on the subject, suggesting that LJ really has been all over the place. Brad's LJ apparently really was trying to maintain a very liberal and robust standard of free speech, and then we have this apparent crackdown from Six Apart that went way beyond the bounds, taking up more of the Christianist position. Where it's going to settle nobody knows, but those corporate dollars can be pretty persuasive, especially in the hearts of the Six Apart ownership.

A 19-year-old virgin walks into a bar. He's got his lucky cross in his pocket and his best jersey on. Please God, he says to himself, let this be the night. He spies a girl sitting at a table—blonde, wholesome-looking, just his type. He sidles up closer to the girl, who is chatting with some friends. Over the din, he can make out snippets of her conversation: at Bible study the other night … Pastor Ted says … saving it for marriage. Discouraged, he walks away in search of a more promising target.

Did he make the correct decision? Or did he make a hasty judgment and miss a chance for a possible love connection?

-- Hanna Rosin for Slate.com

A fun little article based on a study that indicates that Evangelical girls are actually pretty hot to trot, at least among religious girls, though it's only a slight statistical edge. I'm afraid a bigger factor remains how cute you are - ah, sweet temptation!

Victor Davis Hanson has a nice overview of the immigration problem, taking our issues over the Mexican border as part of a global immigration problem. The First World and the Third World - when two worlds collide.

This is the first time that I've heard Canada called Snow Mexico. Cute. Bleh, so long as you are white and middle-class, it's all good.
