More Rain?

Lying in bed, hoping to wait out the rain before taking Bo outside, a little luxuriously. It isn't a storm, but it also isn't a quick shower. It's a determined, steady rain. And the rain is starting to bother me again. Even as I marvel over this springy May. I cannot recall ever enjoying such a May. I'm sure we haven't had something like this in the last ten years, when just not being in a bad drought was special enough; escaping the schorching heat didn't seem like an option. Well, it's getting late, and Bo and Monk are just going to have to brave the weather, again.

Paul Krugman gives us an eye-opening discussion on the immigration-law controversy. I used to think a guest-worker program was the answer, but he shows how that undercuts democracy's balancing institutions, having a class of non-voting laborers. Maybe we should be more focused on just having business play by its own rules and make the jobs more appealing for Americans, but as he suggests, businessmen aren't going to play that game.

Ah, science narrows in on the keys to sexual attractiveness, and it's not just what you have, it's how you move it:

The findings reflect the views of over 700 individuals who participated in a series of five studies, three of which involved animated representations of people walking. The attractiveness ratings for perceived women increased by about 50 percent when they walked with hip sway, and attractiveness ratings for perceived men more than doubled when they walked with a swagger in their shoulders.
Interesting. But I think Monk still better get rich if he wants love.

For those who like a little good old-time conversation and banter, I came across an engaging interview between Woody Allen and Billy Graham: the hedonist versus the saint. I think we have lost something of the art of conversation since then:
