monk222: (Whatever)

Back in mid-2001, when Mayor Rudy Giuliani was busy committing adultery, lurching into his divorce and third marriage and rooming with a gay couple he promised to marry as soon as the law allowed, who among us would have imagined that one day he would be endorsed for president by Pat Robertson?

Truly, Sept. 11 changed everything.

-- Gail Collins for The New York Times

I was having my doubts about Gail Collins as a new columnist for the Times, especially when we were paying for the dubious privilege of reading her. But I thought she hit this one out the park - right up there in Dowd territory. Though, more material from Pat Robertson must make it easier.

“I was simply stating that our spiritual actions have consequences. And it is high time we started recognizing it. God is tolerant and loving, but we can't keep sticking our fingers in his eyes forever. If they have future problems in Dover, I'd recommend they call on Charles Darwin - maybe he can help them.”

-- Pat Robertson

I couldn't resist. Mr. Robertson has a gift for being quotable, and he can make Monk laugh, which is very treasured.

“I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city.”

-- Pat Robertson

Yeah, this quote has probably been around more than a twenty-dollar hooker, but I had to tag it for my own record.

The good and sensible people of Dover are apparently damned for voting out of their school board those lightheads who wanted to inject creationism into science. Though, the people of Kansas can probably still seek favor from the would-be Grand Designer, as that school board succeeded in confusing faith for knowledge and distorting evolution with Intelligent Design propaganda.

And the Culture War rolls on...
