The Bay Horse Years

Stormy Dreamer is busy in the kitchen cooking breakfast before Simple Tree leaves for work. The stove is sizzling and lost in a haze of fragrant smoke. She sees Monk come inside looking flustered and upset as he kicks off his shoes, "What's the matter?"
Laying his book on the table and taking off his heavy coat, Monk says, "It's raining again." At least Bo and Princess did not get dirty. He watches them trot to the kitchen with eager and expectant curiosity.
"Oh, no!" she steps into the adjunct room and looks out the window.
Monks says, "Yeah, I thought we were through with this soggy cold. I thought we were going back to a nice normal dry cold."
She laughs, "But still cold."
Monk nods, "This year anyway." There have been more spring-like Januaries. He takes Fagles' Aeneid with him to his room, mostly upset to lose that jump on his reading. But at least that answers his question about whether to take his walk this morning. Maybe tomorrow. He still has that bread. And his hair is good for another day.
