That is chutzpah. At a NATO summit, Trump accused Germany of being a "captive" of Russia, on the grounds that blah, blah, Germany gets a lot of its oil from Russia. That's wild. Trump cannot take a shit without Putin's permission. Indeed, this charge against the Germans was probably instigated by Putin and his people.

One news blurb has it that Trump is effectively trying to "Finlandize" the United States, that is, to subordinate our foreign policy to the Kremlin's imperatives. What has long astonished me is that Trump's base is willing to go along even with this Russian love affair. I would have thought that they might see this as suspiciously un-American and perhaps even faintly traitorous - white supremacist or not. But they see Russia as a white Christian country, or something, and it's not communist anymore - it's not the Soviet Union. "So, it's cool! Just keep making America great and sticking it to the coloreds!"

It gets positively frightening when the big Republican politicos fall in line on behalf of this Trump-Russian nexus. Like I said, it's wild. And it's real. This would have been a bit heavy for a movie or a novel, a bit too far-fetched. But Trump is stranger than fiction.
