Eww, it really hurts not having trash bags for the lawn clippings. What remains in the bin after the trash truck leaves really stinks and is most foul. It doesn't help that it somehow gets a little wet in there. If it were my money, finding bags that the city deems acceptable would be a priority. ... ... Sugar on her Winnipeg: "This city, man. I have never loved anything so much that disappoints me so consistently." That is actually part of her column, but the paywall is back up. ... ... Damn that Vox! The liberals there are a little greedy. I think this is the second time that they struck me with one of those hard-jamming ads that I associate with shady porn sites. Maybe I should let them go. I have found RealClearPolitics to be fairly user-friendly again, and the articles there are more diverse. ... ... Pi says, "Survey question: Are you physically strong?" I can keep most girls down, I guess. But that's about it. Pi says, "You don't think that would win you any 'charm' points, do you?" Heh, no, but I probably wouldn't say that in real social circles, or at least not in mixed company. "Maybe you should practice more with a more acceptable social persona." Sigh, I don't think this is what kept me down. I think it is the fact that I am down that has led me to a ... rather rawer mode of humor. A poor, ugly injun is never going to be that much. ... ... Cripes, I still haven't made it past Kant's prefaces, which are at least a little playful, and I am thinking about giving up: that life is too short, especially what I have left of it, and there are too many other books to read. Daimon says, "So, stop griping, and quit already!" Well, I at least want to get into the text proper, on the off, off chance that Kant and I might actually click. I have come this far, and I probably will never come back here again: I got to at least get in the water and get wet. ... Oh, man, out of curiosity, I took a look at Amazon's excerpt for Schopenhauer's "The World as Will and Representation". I was thinking that if I give up on Kant, I will be giving up on Schopenhauer as well, and this is the one I really wanted anyway. I fell into the idea that it would hardly be worth trying Schopenhauer without having given a run through Kant, but now I think this was a very mistaken idea. Schopenhauer looks like a vacation in Wonderland compared to "The Critique of Pure Reason". Here I am punishing, torturing myself with Kant when I might actually be thrilling in philosophical intoxication to Schopenhauer! ... ... Daimon says, "So, you finally got to give the old man a little thrill, letting him catch you edging the lawn with the weed-eater." It was about time. But I wasn't put to the real test. I didn't need to put in new string, nor did I even need to fill it up with fuel. Nevertheless, I feel like I did good. I got quite a bit done, too. ... ... NYT: "Ross Douthat and Maureen Dowd are off today." That's a little disappointing. I've been enjoying their work lately. ... ... Aye, I clean and refresh the water dish, and now Sammy decides to bathe his paws in it. My big old man-cat can be a real ass.
