Hmmm, I cannot say that I have broken through to this level, if we can assume that this is more than myth, but I know that my reading life has made all the difference. Which is not to say that it has made me feel whole and happy. I have had to accept that books cannot substitute for good friends and real lovers, but it can still make life worth living. It is good enough that it can move me to want to live another forty years, if only I can continue to enjoy reading and writing.
