Men must be transformed by love and enter into the woman's realm in order to emerge as fully-realized human beings.

-- Maria Bustillos at The Awl

Ms. Bustillos writes that this is a central theme of romance novels. Her larger theme is that people are too dismissive of romance literature as little fantasies for women readers. I doubt she will persuade anyone that this is truly serious literature. The main problem for that thesis, I think, is that such books will never tell the reader something new or lead him to look at his life or world in a different way, nor does the genre draw our best wordsmiths. Nevertheless, I thought the above quote was a great line, and it gave me pause in my skimming and made me think a little.
