Is it entirely possible that someone out there reading a fictional account of a rape could become aroused? Could its descriptions therefore be used for sexual gratification, which is what porn does? Sure. But if we're going to decide that "porn" is anything capable of inciting a boner somewhere, we might as well apply it to every damn thing in the world, from the Victoria's Secret catalog to ComicCon.

A young adult novel, "Speak", has engendered some censorious criticism for its treatment of a teenage girl's rape and its aftermath, apparently being a little more explicit than a puritan would care to be tempted with, and Ms. Williams is taking exception to the work being termed as porn.
She waxes a little philosophical: what is porn? After examining the question myself, bringing to bear my wealth of learning and experience, I would have to agree that a boner is not proof positive that we have true pornography. True, it might be pleasing, but not necessarily porn. For me, the answer is that it has to make me want to finish and cum, and after these years on the Internet, I'm pretty sure that the young adult novel in question wouldn't do that. I could post links to examples of what I do take to be true porn, but I don't want to risk being suspended, nor losing any more friends. Let's just say that it is good to have an outlet, such as the Internet, for our darker energies and fantasies, even if it does tempt the Devil.
