antilapsarian pointed out that Neil Gaiman has a blog, and Monk was impressed that it is a fairly active and substantive blog. However, although Monk comes across mentions of the man fairly often at LJ, he really was not familiar at all with him. Thinking about how neat it would be to read a serious blog of a celebrity that he better appreciates, he started googling for celebrity blogs.
The results were as he feared. Monk might be tempted to think that it would be great to blog if one were a celebrity, having so much to share with so many who would be excited and interested, but celebrities apparently have enough contacts and opportunities that it does seem that they prefer not to hold themselves out that much more as to give the Internet lurkers and wankers of the world (*cough, cough*) a look into their personal lives.
Though, there are some noble efforts. Anna Kournikova apparently puts in some effort at keeping fans informed of her travels and experiences, but her reports are fairly limited and seem scarcely more than a public-relations sheet, albeit with some effort of giving it a personal touch. The same could be said of William Shatner.
At first, Monk was very excited when he saw that Asia Carrera, one of his favorite porn stars has a blog, but he may do better to maintain some distance between the porn fantasy and the reality of the actress. One also had high hopes for the humorist, Dave Barry, but he apparently needs to save all potentially amusing or interesting observations for his column. Why give it away for free when you are getting well paid for it? That goes for both Dave and Asia.
At the end of this little research, the only addition to his blogging rounds that Monk is considering is Mr. Gaiman. He gives off a certain spiritual, reflective quality that is attractive. We will have to keep an eye open for anyone living on the other side of the tracks who is willing to share what life is like for him or her.
