A happy surprise to see that thick Amazon box when I opened the mailbox. I was able to give the full afternoon reading session to Charles Taylor's "A Secular Age". My reading life is truly full now. I needed a little uplift today.
This is exactly what I needed. It is a very depthful, philosophical work that doesn't reduce me to frustrated sighs and hopelessness. It challenges me without overwhelming me. The subject of spirituality is also one that has been much on my mind lately.
I have been questing a bit, wanting to believe that life is wonderful, including my life, perhaps even more wonderful than is worldly possible. I don't think Taylor's purpose is to open up the pearly gates, but it is enough for me to engage related ideas. More mundanely, it also will be good to spread out the books on recent political history.
