KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Hundreds of Sudanese Muslims took to the streets of Khartoum on Friday demanding death for the British school teacher convicted of insulting Islam after her class named a teddy bear Mohammad.

"No one lives who insults the Prophet," the protesters chanted, a day after Gillian Gibbons, 54, was sentenced to 15 days in jail and deportation.

Only death, really? Why not a couple of hundred lashings of the whip, followed by a judicially sanctioned gang-rape, and then death? See, they really are growing softer and more moderate all the time. That Islamic renaissance is just around the corner, the Muslim Enlightenment.

Reuters don't have the full story on that one. What they didn't say is that the official Muslim organisation of Great Britain (apologies to it, as I forget its proper title) has made a statement strongly condemning the imprisonment of Mrs Gibbons. They believed that she should have been released without charges. You should find the rest of the story if you look around a few British newspapers online.

Well, I am glad that those in Britain are more inclined toward a liberal view, but one worries more about these things in places like Sudan. Although there are expressed concerns about Britain being unduly influenced by Islamist elements in your country, I'm not too worried about you all. :p
