“I knew I'd never get enough of her. She was straight out of hell.”
-- The Vengeful Virgin by Gil Brewer
I began the Hard Case Crime book, after all. Earlier in the day, I was feeling that it is too much like porn, and I needed to spend my meager energies more meaningfully. I began the afternoon reading session with Milton, but more than thirty, forty minutes of that and the effort becomes more strained - very rich for my plebeian palette.
I would have been happy to begin "The Abstinence Teacher", but I don't think that is even going to make it by the weekend with everything in holiday mode, bah-humbug.
That's okay. Reading a few pages of this sexy little crime drama has reminded me why I fell for the genre in the first place. Something simple and saucy. I don't understand the reluctance; I've been feeling dumb anyway. I guess I was a little starved for meaningfulness. A half-hour in "Paradise Lost" is plenty.
