Al Gore really needs to get over himself. Here is Muareen Dowd writing about him:

The man who was prescient on climate change, the Internet, terrorism and Iraq admitted that maybe his problem had been that he was too far ahead of the curve. He realized at a conference that “there’re ideas that are mature, ideas that are maturing, ideas that are past their prime ... and a category called ‘predawn.’

“And all of a sudden it hit me,” he told John Heilemann of New York magazine last year. “Most of my political career was spent investing in predawn ideas! I thought, Oh, that’s where I went wrong.”
That he imagines he is an overlooked savior who was too far ahead of his time is an indication of why he is so wrong.

He makes a good guru. But that is probably disastrous in the White House. Jimmy Carter is an example of this. Maybe some people are too good for politics? Let that be their consolation.

I think some people can make much more difference outside politics. Many times I think someone seems very fresh and promising but the minute they become a member of the government they start to look and sound like all the other ones. It's such a shame.

Yes, politics is more about power than doing good, and it probably is pretty corrupting. Good can be done in politics, but it is a different kind of fight, and good intentions are not enough.

I don't get the vibe from him that he sees himself as an overlooked savior, but I do get his frustration that he was ignored too many times about very important things.

Then you are more fortunate than I, for it is a grating vibe. It's like watching and listening to him sigh while debating Dubya. He's good, but it's like a beautiful girl who knows she's beautiful.

It's good to see you around! :)
