More on the Veil

Marie Claire magazine: What do you say to Muslim women who fight for the right to wear the head scarf?

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: I say that's fine - unless you impose your personal choice on others. If you wear the veil, the message you convey is that you're superior to women who do not, because you're saying they are whores. You're also saying men are incapable of sexual self-restraint, and that if they see women who are partly covered or not veiled, they will react like my grandmother's he-goat.

Actually, I think they may have a point about the men, but scarves and covering up is not the answer. You just gotta go with the power.

That's what I never liked about Ayaan: always assuming the worst as soon as there is a hint of Islam.

Most of the country is glad to be rid of her. She was always causing trouble.

Ha ha, she seems to have found a home in America. Americans are a bit worked up about Islam these days, though we still try to distinguish the good from the bad.

I just really don't like her. I agree with her views on female circumcision for instance but her problem is that she communicates things in a very bad way which always seems to draw out aggressive behavior from others. She has obviously never heard of the Dutch saying that honey is a better way to catch flies then vinegar.

And then there's this whole thing about her Dutch nationality that was supposedly taken away. It became this huge media thing all over the world with her as the poor victim of racism when it was simply a case of her providing false information about herself when she entered the country. She gave a wrong name (among other things) which is illegal here and it automatically means that your application for the Dutch nationality becomes invalid as if it was never filed for. This meant that she was still Somali and therefore not allowed to be a member of the Dutch government. The only thing she had to do was re-apply but instead of that she made it out to be as something that was personal against her.

The Americans can have her...lol...good luck! ;)

Yes, as Elodie was saying, she is a bit of a provocateur in her own right, but I pretty much appreciate any liberal voice from the Muslims.
