“You are Lilith, not Eve?” Monk asked.

Gabe said, “I'm Lilith.”

~
Gabe called late last night at a little before eleven, having fallen asleep during the early evening again, with her biorhythms running so erratically. By around the midnight hour, Monk had gotten ready for bed and was lying in the dark room with Little Bear under the whirring fan, talking easily with her.

She suggested that he leave the TV on, just as she always keeps hers droning in the background, but he remembered how he used to be able to converse with her more naturally and freely lying down in darkened silence and left the TV off. And a very pleasant and friendly conversation was enjoyed in full.

Reporting to her his steps for getting ready for bed, he told her, "I'm down to my briefs." She said, "Nooo, you should wear boxers!" In a somber tone he said, "No, there is no point in that now." She would not see them.

Inspired, Monk said, "I'll take off my briefs and lie down naked!" When he suggested that she do so to, it was her turn to remind him that such intimacy was gone between them, and she silently let the flirtation drop. Monk played on, "You should! It is like Adam & Eve before the fall."

She brought up Lilith. She was always wont to point out that people keep forgetting about Lilith. Monk saw this as rich ground to explore and encouraged her to relate the mythology.

She said that Lilith was part of the Jewish lore. Lilith was created in the same way Adam was created - not from one of his ribs or one of his anything. She was Adam's equal. In her independence, Lilith would not cleave to Adam, and God favored Adam. So, God created a subordinate Eve for Adam, and Lilith was left to consort with demons.
