Edward Klein has written one hell of an exposé. His new book on Hillary Clinton, "The Truth About Hillary: What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She'll Go to Become President," insinuates epic mendacities, sapphic sex, fiscal improprieties and marital rape. All of that Klein documents either vaguely or not at all and is so beyond belief and good taste that the very fact his book is selling like proverbial hotcakes starkly exposes the anti-Clinton people as the village idiots of our time. It takes one to buy this book.

-- "Right-Wing Sucker Punch" by Richard Cohen for The Washington Post

Presidential politics has become a full-time enterprise. And since the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" brought such glory to the last election for the Republicans, we can now enjoy seeing the same farce honoring Hillary. Mr. Cohen seems to think that this is a purely cynical venture by the author, and how can you go wrong with sapphic love?

Did you read the link on my LJ to the interview with Klein on the Al Franken Show? They demolished the guy. Not that anyone who doesn't already agree with the Left will have their mind changed, still it was fascinating to me how much of the book was factually fictional.

I was very behind and I don't think I checked the link, but I went through it now. I liked this quote that shows this isn't just about liberals:

FRANKEN: And, you know, he's not alone. There are critics of the book that are even, like John Podhoretz on the right. He says -- writes -- he's a conservative. He writes, "This is one of the most sordid volumes I've ever waded through. Thirty pages into it, I wanted to take a shower. Sixty pages into it, I wanted to be decontaminated. And 200 pages into it, I wanted someone to drive stakes through my eyes so I wouldn't have to suffer through another word." Now this is a conservative, and I gotta say that it wasn't that bad.

Unfortunately, Hillary is so involved with that whole aura of Clinton controversy that she probably goes into any campaign with a lot of baggage, and even a jaundiced polemic like this may serve to highlight that fact.

Of course, we still have to see the lay of the land in 2007. It would be a fascinating race if the Democrats cannot come up with anyone better, and I cannot really think of a clear superior.

Of course, Republicans really want to get Hillary out in the Senate election. But I think even with her being "a Clinton" she still is wildly popular...esp. as worthy of being our first woman pres.

Who knows where Retardicans may be in 2008, too...politics seems to be shifting esp. in light of Bush's speech last night.

Just to be sure! You do like her for the race, right? At the very least, it would make for a fascinating race, particularly if she gets the party's nomination for the general election. I think it was you who discussed the Condi possibility for the Republicans, but I have a rather hard time seeing that fly.

I dunno if she is my favorite Democrat or not. Depends on who her opposition is, too. She has baggage, but is also very strong esp. on defense and has being a woman going for her. I can't see Condi, but that would be some race to watch...and probably tilted for Hillary.
