In the early evening we did get the scent of rain, but that was all we got of it. At least the mowing is done.
After a shower, settling down with his TV dinner, Monk caught the movie Killing Me Softly. It's the sort of drama-romance story that he usually avoids, but this one stars Heather "roller girl" Graham. He was not disappointed on that score. The busty blonde is too common a fantasy, but no less sweet a dream for that.
Regardless, one is uninspired about this Saturday Skin post. This is a little bondage number that Monk picked up over the summer at
bad_porn_2. There actually isn't any objectionable nudity per se, but it's theme is perhaps too offensive for some. Neverthemore, it's the sort of song that charms the heart of our primate-protagonist.

" The United States has the best health care available, but because 17% of the population is uninsured, and the majority of American citizens have difficulty accessing health care due to financial concerns, or difficulties with managed care approval, the United States ranks 20th in life expectancy, 23rd in infant mortality, and between 50th and 100th in immunizations, depending on the immunization selected."
Ouch.
"Dr. Martin Luther King said "of all the inequalities in the world, the lack of access to health care is the worst."
Too bad I wasn't alive while he was around. I would have liked him.
What's interesting is that there are a good number of doctors in the States who support single-payer coverage. Doctors in Saskatchewan went on strike and freaked out when good ol' Tommy brought it in there. They got used to it though... but it's good to know that there are doctors who actually believe in healing, and not just in dollar signs.

See? You could carry the "costs and burdens" of defense even better! Hell, throw in another war, this one's on the house...

"People laugh at me when I talk about the Governor signing this Act. They point out to me that this is most unlikely state in the United States for a single payer, universal health care act to pass, Connecticut being the Insurance Capital of the World, and the Governor's family owning an insurance agency."
I think that encapsulated much of the American problem. The talk about enlightened self-interest that the writer goes on with, about how it could re-vitalize the Republican Party, sounds like pie in the sky.
I'm afraid that common Americans, such as moi, are just screwed on healthcare for a long time to come. If Clinton couldn't get his compromised version passed in a time of peace and prosperity, it seems unthinkable when we have a war going on and an uncertain threat climate.
