Unsurprisingly, our apathetic primate-protagonist hasn't even been up to watching the Olympics. Today, he has been reading some blogging discussions about how skimpy the uniforms are for the athletes, citing Beach Volleyball in particular.

Monk was skeptical, so he checked the Internet for the story. He is now kicking himself hard for missing this celebration of global community:

Geesh, people will complain about anything.

Actually, the discussion came from those who share my appreciation for women's forms - [livejournal.com profile] antilapsarian in particular. It wasn't so much complaining from them as just being a bit agog. Though, I have to think that there are those on the Right who are quite upset, such as those who get all riled up about Janet Jackson's tit-flash.

I just think: this is so nice!

"Appreciation for women's forms." I don't appreciate semi-clad women that are supposed to represent the female sex. Until I see clothing or equal or lesser value on more men, I won't appreciate this sex parade.

This, however, is a sport where both sexes are clad to the same degree.

In swimming, aren't the men dressed in even less than the women? We're getting closer to the perfect and equal world...

There's nothing fairer than fair.

A-FUCKING-MEN to that (with an emphasis on, "men")

You speak the truth. I need more faith and less skepticism, as the latter is often only a cover for laziness anyway, heh.

I'm sure you caught the beach volleyball cheerleaders, too, in their orange bikinis?

In my own journal, I think my reply to queensugar says it best about where my complaining is coming from: "I guess I come from a different philosophy of athletics. I never hit the weightroom too hard when I was doing a lot of sports. I love how Michael Phelps does no weight training. Incredible physical shape is almost unfortunate side effect of being worldclass at something physical, to me. I don't buy artificial beauty whether it is a glam model or a swimmer. I like the natural look of people being beautiful through daily normal life. Anything aside from that is freakish. LOL"

Though I suppose the irony in my own philosophy is that I'm setting up just a different class of beauty in what I personally enjoy, perhaps unfairly rejecting the (supposed) beauty of the ripped athlete. Fuck 'em. Literally, I suppose. It's not like if that one hot female swimmer--what's her name?--came up to me at a bar offering her toned body to me for my personal use I would reject it.

Same here! I don't really go for scads of bulging muscles on anybody. But at the same time, I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Weren't you on Blurty once upon a time? I was Monk's friend sheep4859.

Oh, cool, I'll add you. Yep, former Blurtians who mass-migrate.

Being top world class athletes, I suppose the performance is first and the physcial look more secondary. I would think it great if they can actually keep the competition drug free - in tht bid for athletic excellence.

But 'leaned and toned' does correlate with sexy!

You do seem averse to those who place such emphasis and efforts on their body, be it these athletes or porn stars. As you know I tend to favor the ideal, even if it is something of a 'perversion' of normality - as I tend to favor dreams over reality.

I suppose it depends on what one's "ideal" is. I tend to see "leaned and toned" as more harsh and much prefer softer, more buxom figures as the ideal. I'm not necessarily averse to those who place an emphasis on their bodies...I guess I just think of it as sexier when people sort of naturally exist as opposed to painting, injecting, sculpting, training, and otherwise forming themselves into something that really goes beyond the ideal into some hyper-surreal version of humanity.

I happened to catch a little beach volleybal this morning. It isn't all that to watch. They seem to keep from making all the nice camera shots, drats!
