Monk has listened to enough Elvis that he is now venturing into his lesser collection of assorted pop artists. He was pleased to rediscover his Michael Bolton: Greatest Hits 1985-1995. Some of Monk's younger blogger friends may not even know what a Michael Bolton is. Although he is no Elvis (and who can be?), Bolton can belt out a pretty soulful ballad.

In addition to some nice versions of classics, such as "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay," "Georgia on My Mind," and "When a Man Loves a Woman," Monk particularly took up "When I'm Back on My Feet Again" for his own anthem, thinking that it may serve as his own inspiration to get back into Real Life. Oh, well...

Going back to Elvis (where all music begins and ends), Monk has one disappointment about getting the new stereo. When he used to fantasize about having a stereo and listening to music during his reading breaks, as he drinks some water and throws some darts, he imagined that he would re-read Peter Guralnick's definitive two-volume biography, Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley and Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley. That is, with the new stereo and getting re-acquainted with the Elvis music, he would take the opportunity to complement the experience with the reading - the book and audio combination.

It was a great plan. If the stereo were to come at all, he didn't think it would be this soon. Monk now has too much on his plate to take up the Elvis biography. But it's something to look forward to...

Hahahaha Bolton!

Were you familiar with him?
(Musically speaking, of course, heh.)

Yes, I'm not that young, Monk. I've always found his music laughable, though. ;)

Michael Bolton?! *hides in terror*

I grew up in the late-eighties/early-ninties, I know who this hellspawn is.

LOL I was thinking he faded out from the scene before your cohort-group were really turned onto music.

I know you seem to go against those of obvious charm and ease - especially the mainstream pop scene. But I thought he might make your insides quiver if you heard him sing, as you would dream of love. The guy is quite the troubadour, the stuff of women's dreams - back in the day.

I've found that most women usually do not have good taste in men.

Plus, I don't like singers who can conventionally sing well- I like Nico and Trish Keenan and Bjork.

Ah, that explains it! Because if there's one thing Elvis does better than anyone ever, it's sing well.

Michael Bolton? ::points and laughs::

. . . ::hides her Savage Garden CD's before Monk sees them::

I had never heard of them, and googling a little, I think I regret hearing about them now, lol.

Before my time, but as a gesture of faith in the Monk's taste, checking this "Bolton" character out.

Oh, no! I cannot be held responsible for Bolton. I hope you just download something for free, instead of buying a CD or something. Bolton definitely isn't cool, but he's a first-rank troubadour - a more contemporary Johnny Mathis if you happen to know him.

But I guess it's always good to see what is out there, lol...

You too? I would've thought there was a chance you might have some appreciation for Bolton.

Sorry, sweetie. I'll take the originals anytime over Bolton. Otis Redding is a god.

Poor Bolton... no wonder he seems to have gone from the limelight.
