Having finished Lisa Baron’s “Life of the Party: A Political Press Tart Bares All”, I feel a little cheated. If she is a bit of a tart, she certainly couldn’t be called a slut, unless she left a whole lot out of her book. The story of the Ari Fleischer blowjob was apparently the hook to catch shameless readers like our Monk, for there really wasn’t that much else.

This seems to be the story of a good Jewish girl getting into political life with Christian fundamentalists, particularly under Ralph Reed’s tutelage. True, she is not an especially orthodox Jew and has an over-sexualized mind and does not fear casual sex, and she will tease us throughout the book like this:
While I do enjoy me some food for my soul every now and again, clearly I am not a Godaphile. I am a press tart, a twentysomething secretary/spokesperson who, if asked, would be hard-pressed to explain how they qualified for their jobs, let alone who God really is. Even so, Godaphiles and press tarts enjoy a symbiotic relationship. Godaphiles appreciate us, not just because of our heavenly short skirts and fitted shirts that grip a pair of divine young tits - but because they need us. After all, you can’t hire a Godaphile to do the devil’s work. And Godaphiles are far less inclined to end up getting bent over that big wood desk after hours.
But she never gets bent over the big wood desk. Nevertheless, I am not complaining. I loved this inside look at our politics. Moreover, my appetite for history has been reawakened, albeit history that is served up in the more reader-friendly narrative style as opposed to the drier academic tomes. I’m just sorry that it took a promise of sleaze to get me interested. Not that I am beating myself up over that. Just saying.
