AudioBooks
Nov. 20th, 2018 03:04 pmI finally finished that "Reagan" audiobook. It took up a good month. Twenty-six disks. However, I am doubtful that it will withstand compulsive re-listening. I enjoyed it a lot and don't regret getting it, but ... I am afraid that I will need at least another six months before I can care to play it again, and even this is pushing it. At least a few years between playings sounds closer to the truth.
This is making me rethink my strategy on future audiobook purchases. I was thinking that audiobooks might be my road to get in some informational non-fiction, since when it comes to regular books I now seem only able to take in my favorite stories, along with related exegetical texts. Life now seems too short for me to stray far from my heart-core books. So, for instance, I was thinking about getting in another audiobook biography, this one on Napoleon, since a new one has come out and looks pretty good. But now I'm wondering if I should first stock up on more Shakespeare and treat non-literary non-fiction as a luxury - being essentially one-time treats that lend variety to my audiobook pleasure.
