monk222: (Elvis Legend)

This story was posted at [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt and I have to put it down for my own record:

Ozzy Osbourne, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion have been branded the "worst singers of all time". The poll, carried out by British music magazine Q, lauds Elvis Presley as "the greatest voice of all time", but singles out popular stars such as Dion and Carey for their vocal inability.
It is good to be the king. I had a feeling...

Obama went on to urge blacks to couple their complaints with activism. "Put on your marching shoes," he said. "Go do some politics. Change this country!" That's what we need. And then he said, as he had to, that while there are too many children living in poverty -- and, of course, there are -- "don't tell me that it doesn't have a little to do with the fact that we got too many daddies not acting like daddies. Don't think that fatherhood ends at conception."

-- Richard Cohen for The Washington Post

Judging from news accounts, I gather that Obama has started making inroads on the black vote, starting to overcome the Clinton sway. In Cohen's column on the candidate matching up against the Clintons in that campaign confrontation in Selma, where they were commemorating a civil rights anniversary, one again hears that note of tough leadership from Obama, challenging voters and calling for responsibilities, and he is not sinking in the polls for it - very interesting. And, of course, I just love the 'fatherhood doesn't end at conception' line, heh.

monk222: (Noir Detective)

Scooter Libby has been found guilty of perjury, as related to that outing of the CIA agent, Valerie Plame, in what looks like a bid to retaliate against her husband's report questioning the Administration's claims that Saddam was buying nuclear materials, undermining the case for war and toppling the regime.

What I really find newsworthy was the press conference after the verdict in which a juror speaks out. The juror said that the mood among the jurors was regret for having to do this to Libby because they felt he was just a fall guy for Rove and Cheney. It sounded like they really would have liked to put it to that dark duo.

There is not a lot of Bush love out here. I guess that is what happens when you ride roughshod over your voters as though the presidency were your own little monarchy and you rain disaster abroad and at home.
