Chillin' with the Stereo

Monk has listened to enough Elvis that he is now venturing into his lesser collection of assorted pop artists. He was pleased to rediscover his Michael Bolton: Greatest Hits 1985-1995. Some of Monk's younger blogger friends may not even know what a Michael Bolton is. Although he is no Elvis (and who can be?), Bolton can belt out a pretty soulful ballad.

In addition to some nice versions of classics, such as "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay," "Georgia on My Mind," and "When a Man Loves a Woman," Monk particularly took up "When I'm Back on My Feet Again" for his own anthem, thinking that it may serve as his own inspiration to get back into Real Life. Oh, well...

Going back to Elvis (where all music begins and ends), Monk has one disappointment about getting the new stereo. When he used to fantasize about having a stereo and listening to music during his reading breaks, as he drinks some water and throws some darts, he imagined that he would re-read Peter Guralnick's definitive two-volume biography, Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley and Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley. That is, with the new stereo and getting re-acquainted with the Elvis music, he would take the opportunity to complement the experience with the reading - the book and audio combination.

It was a great plan. If the stereo were to come at all, he didn't think it would be this soon. Monk now has too much on his plate to take up the Elvis biography. But it's something to look forward to...
