I see in the Express-News headlines that the AT&T execs are moving to Dallas. I guess it should have been very surprising why they chose San Antonio in the first place. I remember when it was big news when they came here, back in the early nineties, I think. AT&T must be doing a lot better these days, and they can no longer resist the richer social life of the big city.

This would seem to suggest that San Antonio is now doing more poorly. I was sardonically amused to read that the employees will be left behind. The execs practically snuck away in the night, surprising the local establishment. San Antonio seems unlikely to ever become a first-tier city, perhaps never even getting its football team, heh. You gotta have the big spenders.

San Antonio is becoming more aggressive about animal control, bidding to become a "no-kill community" by 2012, providing for forced spaying and neutering. What particularly caught my attention was the provision for cats: "community-wide trapping, neutering and returning of feral cats." A coincidence, or are my Old Journal fantasies not really mere fantasies?

Whatever. I just wonder how they hope to capture the cats. Our animal catchers don't seem that fast and nimble or concerned. It sounds like a good idea, though, especially if they actually do return the cats, but I suspect some of the finer points are likely to get lost in the execution.
