PostSecret of the Week

Dogs in Heaven

I know the feeling, guy.

I thought I was still going to get to see a lot of Bo for at least the remainder of my life, that we would spend a lot of time together in my dreams. I was actually counting on that consolation, but am sorry to say that Bo has come to me in my sleep in only the merest fragments of dreams. It must be my fault, because he could hardly stay away from me before. Maybe I should keep a doggie biscuit under my pillow.

I miss you, buddy.

Bo

As I was stirring from my sleep, I think I was having a dream of Bo. At the very least I had a dream image of him. He was in the hallway, and I was looking at him as if from the living-room side of the hallway. We were facing each other, as he stood there, as though he had just gotten up and come from his bathroom den, waiting to be led outside. He wasn't looking directly at me, face to face, and he was so still, like it was just a photograph rather than a moving, living dream. But the eskie was healthy and in full coat.

On another Bo-related note, I have been using his old dishes to feed and water Burstyn's tribe at the shed, and when I pick them up in the afternoon to clean them and put them away, I find myself unconsciously putting Bo's food dish at the old spot by the water cooler.

I miss him. He really was my best friend. I only wish that I missed him more; I feel like I'm slighting our relationship - and that I didn't give him enough love in return.
