“Getting fucked and being owned are inseparably the same.”
-- Andrea Dworkin, "Intercourse"
It is practically impossible for me to pass over such a provocative quote. After checking out the Amazon reviews of the book, one gets the impression that this is a hypothetical proposition whose truth is only realized in a male supremacist society, as ours might be taken to be. The more well-known proposition from Dworkin is that all penetrative sex is rape. Accordingly, in a healthy society, sex would not be this negative. In a male supremacist society, sex is arguably perverted to reinforce male domination. We will leave aside Monk's own febrile predilections, who, after all, thinks a woman looks good in a collar. ;)
