monk222: (Shoot Me!)
Father notified me that the Cowboys game was on at twelve. Maybe that was one of the reasons why Lorie stayed overnight, instead of going back and forth, from a Spurs evening game and back to a Cowboys morning game.

I couldn't stay home, especially with the prospect of just microwaving another pot pie for lunch. So I went out, to eat something different for lunch, in addition to just getting out of the house for a couple of hours. I can only withstand so much sports boosterism. Not to mention the idea of my own seventy year old father having a social life and running circles around me.

I had a hard time figuring out what to eat though, since it seemed like the selection was much the same that I have at home, either hamburgers or chicken or pizza. I started thinking of Taco Bell, and before dismissing the case as hopeless, soft chicken tacos seemed like a good choice. Still chicken, but a preferable form for today. Lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, a healthy step up for me.

I also got another hard cover at the dollar store. My first Don DeLillo novel, a short one, "Cosmopolis", about a young mega-rich Wall Street type going through an existential crisis in his limo during an odyssey to get a haircut. The plot is pretty thin, but the writing looked a little snappy and promised to be a bit saucy, "Sometimes he leaves the car for sexual encounters and sometimes he doesn't have to." It only cost a dollar.

I'm not sure when I'm going to get to the book, though, if ever. I haven't had much of a taste for mainstream novels lately. Like I've said before, when it comes to the emotional needs that good fiction satisfies, I seem to be getting my fill with Christianity, and Shakespeare, too. But it's always good to have a couple of unread novels lying around the house, something for a rainy day.
