I have since heard more of the context - that the comment came in the midst of a litany against the Bush people - so that his defense is perhaps more valid that I thought. Still, when you are being anti-Iraq, you want to be wary of being anti-military, at least if you are one easily colored as a dreamy, pacifist Democrat.
