She says, "A good book on a rainy afternoon is one of life's sweeter pleasures. But sometimes even that doesn't cover everything for me. Making love on a rainy afternoon is sometimes even better. Or, as corny and cliche as it may sound, just being with a loved one and not having to say anything. There are some things that one cannot find in a book, no matter how hard he or she tries."
Monk can only wonder whether she was consciously addressing his own stunted life. In any case, he also asks, being unable to avoid her beauty, "Would you dress like a catholic schoolgirl for your lover?"
