Reading Life

A tough restless night. Wrestling with an angry angel. And I have decided to give up my fondly bold bid to take on ancient Rome. I am feeling the need to stay home to my heart-core of stories: "Magic Mountain", "Lolita", "1984", and "Hamlet".

If only I could be thirty-something again! But I had my youth, and I did with it what I could, and what I have is what I have. I must make the best of it. Yet, I don't want to sound ungrateful. I feel that I picked up a nice clutch of stories on my travels. Not bad at all.

Weather

Pop was right about that "spike" in the chances for rain on Friday. Our grocery day. I think he has finally learned how to use a weather website. As I remarked to him, our grocery days over the past year really have been a magnet for iffy weather. The problem is compounded because we sorely need a dry spell to normalize homelife a bit. At least the forecast is calling only for showers rather than storms.

Trump World

I took care of that wank. Listening to the news as I dry myself off after the shower, I am surprised to see that Trump's threat to call a national emergency is still a live grenade. I'm not terribly surprised to hear that Republican leaders are actually coming to support the move. America has been evolving for some time into an uglier beast over the past few decades, and Trump might simply represent a point of punctuated equilibrium. It is ironic, of course, that Trump ran on the slogan of 'make America great again', since he is just about squeezing us dry of the last juice of true greatness that America ever possessed.

Spaghetti

Last grocery day, I couldn't find my Smart Ones spaghetti meal. So, I got a more popular brand: Banquet. I tried it tonight and count it a happy improvisation. Presumably it's not as 'healthy', but I'm generally willing to go with flavor over healthiness, so long as it doesn't give me acid-reflux.
