Hard Freeze for the New Year
Dec. 31st, 2017 06:31 pmIt's true winter tonight. The temperature is expected to fall to the twenties overnight and not rise above the low thirties tomorrow, and this is supposed to continue for at least the next couple of days. I've long said I prefer a chill in the air, certainly as opposed to the wretched heat of July and August, but, um, this is perhaps a bit too much of a good thing, even coming close to being a bad thing.
This is also New Year's Eve. The cold should challenge our fireworks enthusiasts, though they have been practicing since Christmas. I nevertheless hope they shoot off their arsenal tonight. I'd hate for them to hold off and extend their pyrotechnic celebrations over the next week. Just get it over with!
2018 ... I never thought I'd make it this long, especially in this way - as an adult-child, practically a virgin (in any substantive sense of the word) and with less money than when I was sixteen working at a McDonald's - I don't even have a driver's license anymore. Of course, I still have an hour to go before I do in fact make it to see 2018, but barring any sudden catastrophe, the chances are looking good, or looking sad, depending on the perspective you take.
