NFL

Funny, now that I have become hugely interested in gridiron football, the NFL seems to be suffering a serious dip in their audience levels. It is generally associated to the controversy that Trump has stirred up over players refusing to stand for the national anthem. It's possible. That and the fact that football has become more of a black game, with Trump perhaps helping to draw out this racial factor.

What promoted this journal entry is the news item that the Papa John's pizza guy is now blaming the NFL's leadership for its own plunge in pizza sales. Of course, John could have blamed the notorious leadership of Trump, as well as the management of our police forces (whose racism has provoked the players' protest in the first place), but I guess, like Trump, he knows how to pick his targets.

My Eyes

My eyes, my eyes! They may prove to be the very limit of me. When I can no longer read even with a magnifying glass, then what would I still be doing in the world, when my primary consolation is denied me?

I'm not there yet, but ... at this rate, I wonder how much farther down the road it can be. The timing might not be so bad, though. After all, without Pop and his support, how can I enjoy my reading and writing life without room & board? Maybe everything is just closing out nicely.

That still leaves the cats. I love them, really. I hate the idea of them having to fend for themselves in this urban wasteland. If everything and everyone can hold steady for another five years or so, with the cats already being a little old themselves, then all might yet end well, almost storybook. I am dreaming again, aren't I?
