Now that storm has landed. It has been teasing us for a couple of weeks. And now when it seemed that our chances had past for good, it comes in hard this afternoon. A real lawn-flooding storm.

We need it. But the timing is a little hard on Pop. He left for his rounds just about fifteen minutes before things got serious. I hope he is okay, and that he is only cursing his luck.

Chess

I've taken a break from studying chess openings in favor of going back to the beautiful games of the masters. The openings started to feel too much like homework. I hope I go back to it, though. If you are going to devote this much of your time to the game, you really should attain proficiency on the ins-and-outs of the various openings. But at this point in my life, it is not a bad idea to bet on my laziness winning out. It's shameful, for instance, that I never learned Spanish. It's not as though I were busy with work and raising a family.
