A striking dream. Pop and I seemed to be living with a lot more people, very Hispanic people at that, and they preferred to speak in Spanish. I have the clear thought to myself as I watch them and hear them around me that I am going to go ahead and learn Spanish. Interestingly, I also vowed that this would be a secret, that I wanted to be able to understand what they said without them knowing that I know. Though, as I listend to them, I was consciously skeptical about my ability to pick up that language that well ... ... Sammy looks like such a big old masculine can, lying stretched on his tummy on the patio with his head up looking around, looking at me. I like looking into that leonine face. Daimon says, "And ..." And, yeah, I miss Willy. But I am still loving Sammy ... ... David Brooks argues that young folk, millennials, seem to be moving toward a more communal way of life, and he draws an interesting historical support anent native american life: "In 18th-century America, colonial society and Native American society sat side by side. The former was buddingly commercial; the latter was communal and tribal. As time went by, the settlers from Europe noticed something: No Indians were defecting to join colonial society, but many whites were defecting to live in the Native American one. This struck them as strange. Colonial society was richer and more advanced. And yet people were voting with their feet the other way." [NYT] ... ... Daimon says, "Back to watching chess videos over lunch?" Yeah, I feel a little overloaded by movies, and not feeling very satisfied with these movies, and my meals are often too messy for reading. I cannot follow these chess videos as closely as I would like, as they tend to move too fast for me, but I am content to catch what I can catch ... ... Pop didn't leave for his rounds until after three, and he is back before five. It's been like this for a while. He does not seem to be as heavily into his rounds lately. I remember when he would leave before two and not be back until after six on a regular basis ... ... The cats got a little scare. The back neighbor came to fix the fence. I guess he won't be pruning our tree, which is just as well: it's too odd & awkward to receive such costly gestures from somebody, leaving one with the sense that something significant should be done for him, or at least wash his car or something.
