I mowed the front. It was tougher than I thought. Doing it under the afternoon sun didn't help. As it turned out, I could have waited till the evening. The threat of rain blew away.

There was one unfortunate, somewhat traumatic episode. I saw a bee flittering around the front, which for me is a call to arms. I brought out the can of bee-killer spray and went to battle. I missed the bee, as it flew off into the clear blue, but I doused the bee-house he was building. However, in my vigilance to track down these threats, searching out hives, I decided to shoot a good squirt of poison into that big hole in the wall near my bedroom window. As it so happens there was something there, but it wasn't a bee. Immediately, I was shocked by a squall of distress and alarm, as a bird flew out from the hole. I definitely didn't want that. I wouldn't shoot poison at a bird anymore than I would at a cat or dog. Maybe the spray wasn't so poisonous for birds?

It may be recalled that I used to keep that hole duct-taped. It was dumb, but it worked. But I gave up re-taping it every few months. Since I practically never sleep in my room now, and haven't done so for about a couple of months, I have not been disturbed by any noises that might be coming from any animal life in that hole. Out of sight, out of mind, ain't broke don't fix it. I wish we could get someone to slab over that hole properly, or that I were genuinely smart and energetic enough to figure out how to do it myself. For now, as a practical matter, I am content to leave it under Pop's control, but it doesn't seem to be one of those things that draw his 'home improvement' attention - it's not something that you can just spray and wipe. I don't intend to pump bee-poison into it anymore, unless I actually see bees coming out of it. Which might start happening now, if that bird decides to abandon the little hideaway nest. I suspect the birds were probably good at keeping the bees away, too. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
