Justice Clarence Thomas made news by asking questions at oral arguments before the Supreme Court. It had been ten years since he had last done so. Perhaps he is feeling the void left behind by Scalia's death.

Pop interrupts my nap to get my endorsement on my six-dollar check for my jury service. He is going to try to cash it for me.

I ask, "Are you sure you don't want my ID card?" He shakes it off, saying no. I take another shot at the question, "Are you sure? Just in case? It's easy just to carry it along with you."

He said, "No, I might lose it."

I laugh. "That's what I was thinking."
