Fox News like to sell themselves as the patriotic news channel - America's news channel. Well, they just revealed the name of a member of the Navy SEAL team that conducted the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, and now al-Qaida knows too! Al-Qaida has posted the picture and the name on its websites and is effectively announcing a super-fatwa on the man's life. One of Fox's executives, John Moody, has only this to say, "“Once you write a book, anonymously or not, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy.” The SEAL member has written a book under a pseudonym detailing the raid. It's true that fiction can not match the craziness of fact.

"I always had an aversion to looking sexy, but I've grown out of it."

-- Kristen Stewart

I know the feeling. Eventually you realize that you just cannot fight it and so you just let the good times roll.

Maybe she is a little too sexy for her own good. I think I got this quote before she fell into a big scandal over cheating on her boyfriend with the director of a movie she was working on, and although I would have thought this a yawn of a story by Hollywood standards, the scandal caught like a wildfire, and she seems to have been practically banished. Maybe I misunderstood something. I don't really get it. But I liked the quote.

As if you haven’t already read enough about how money is influencing this year’s election in ways never seen before thanks to Citizens’ United, recently legendary Republican strategist Roger Stone made an allegation that takes things to a whole new level.

Stone claims that unnamed “sources” tell him the Koch brothers lobbied the Romney campaign hard to pick Paul Ryan as his running mate, and that they sealed the deal at a July 22 fundraiser with Romney, where David Koch pledged an additional $100 million in support to SuperPACs and C-4s (another type of political non-profit for influencing elections) in exchange for picking Ryan.

This story may well be entirely groundless, but I think it aptly captures the spirit of our time.

A Vincent Van Gogh Story. There is some serious speculation that he may have been color-blind:

After visiting a design exhibit that modeled the visual experience of people with colorblindness, Kazunori Asada noticed that..., [u]nder the chromatically filtered light, Van Gogh’s more striking and curious color choices suddenly became natural and warm. It was if this was how they were meant to be viewed, Asada thought.

It's kind of funny. A color-blind artist. Maybe that is why he was not successful in his time, why people could not understand him and his work. Well, I have long thought that Van Gogh was less famed for his art than for his tragic life story as an artist.
