Miss My Nap
Jan. 14th, 2012 03:34 pmPop left just before two (and for the record he did not get out of bed till about eleven, like the old days of, oh, maybe a couple of years ago), and I was in a mood and took the laptop to my room for a serious porn hunt. It cost me my nap. It's a good thing that I had a good sleep this morning, but I always miss my nap.
Though, I don't know if I would have been able to doze off anyway, since I have one neighbor playing rock band and another neighbor doing lawn work this afternoon. Can't blame them. It is a beautiful, springy Saturday afternoon, with that delightful nip of chill in the air. But I wish I didn't feel tired and sleepy.
God, I wish I could really feel good sometime, just once in my adult life, maybe one springtime, one season, before I die or become too old.

Free-Market Communism
Jan. 14th, 2012 06:03 pmWith apologies to Simon and Garfunkel: "Where have you gone, Chairman Mao, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you."
They rioted in the streets of Beijing on Friday. It was just the like the old days of the Cultural Revolution. Except this time the rioters weren't waving Mao's "Little Red Book."
No, they were shouting insults -- and chunking eggs -- at an Apple store. Which wouldn't open its doors because it had run out of new iPhone 4S's to sell.
-- Los Angeles Times
The world really is becoming one. It's not necessarily a perfect world. It's a world of the rich and the middle-classy and, of course, the poor. But I suppose it's progress in some meaningful sense: more people are better off.
