Better a bad press than a good eulogy
Sep. 24th, 2011 11:29 amThe latest strategem in the Middle East on the part of Muslims and Palestinians is to get a UN vote on statehood. Of course, the Palestinians were offered statehood at the same time the Israelis were back in the 1940s, but turned it down because they could not countenance a Jewish state in the region and instead chose to cut off their nose to spite their faces. Now, it seems they want statehood with the idea that they then might wage a stronger war against Israel and toward its destruction. It is in this environment that Netanyahu speaks before the United Nations assembly. I thought I would keep most of the speech, save for the first little part.
I will say that one clear mark against the Israeli position is their insistence and practice on continuing to build Jewish settlements on land that will eventually have to go back to the Palestinians per all known versions of the two-state solution. This is a clear indication of bad faith.
