Such Sweet Sorrow
May. 3rd, 2011 08:04 amCulling my Friends Page, I see some heated discussion over whether it is appropriate to be cheering the assassination of Osama bin Laden, and Monk being Monk, I thought I'd snatch a couple of good quotes.

"Faced with the death of a man, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibility of everyone before God and man, and hopes and pledges that every event is not an opportunity for a further growth of hatred, but of peace."
-- Catholic Church
"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."
-- Mark Twain

As for myself, I felt some qualms over seeing the cheering and jubilation of Americans celebrating the news, but I couldn't feel sad, and I rather enjoyed that sense, however ephemeral, of all Americans being one big happy family.
