[Error: unknown template qotd]

Cake, a coke, and a good book.

Of course that works on sunny afternoons, cold afternoons, any kind of afternoon. It's not too bad for mornings or evenings, either.

But, now, when is it a good time for exercise? I can't say I've ever found the answer to that one.

Cripes,
I almost forgot about the grass clippings again!

And that is true winter coldness.

After the first five minutes, you really begin to
feel it.

It's a good time to finish the movie "Frozen."

I snacked up the Neighbor Dog again,
to get his metabolism burning and show him
there is still love and goodness in the world.

If Congress wants to win support for offshore drilling, it must take every precaution to reduce the chances of another catastrophe.

~
Hahahahaha!

That's the blurb for today's New York Times editorial. Like they care about having our support, when they have that sea of green floating through their coffers. Like we can trust their precautions! Hmmph, I guess it's just good to be the king.

When I come back to "Frozen" this morning,
I'm afraid that the movie is degenerating
into a touchei-feelie fest,

but, no

the suspense machine resumes cranking,

and I have to be impressed with the way
they finish up the story

a hard, real feel to it

rather in the vein of "Eden Lake."

Maybe they are starting to make better movies
these days,
leaving behind the popcorn movies of yesterday,

or maybe I just got lucky and hit a couple of good ones,

or maybe I'm just growing duller minded.

Sarah Palin is so precious,
the people behind her, so wiley and ballsy.

She chides her opponents
with making irresponsible statements
for condemning her gun 'em down rhetoric.

Talk about the classic playground comeback:

"I am made of rubber
and you are made of glue,
whatever you say bounces off me
and sticks to you."

We can only depend on the intelligence of the
average American voter.

So, we're fucked.

Actually, it's probably worse.

The people are smart,
and assailing liberals is just not such an evil
as far as they are concerned.

A lot of them probably love this double game
of speaking violence
and blaming the other side
for the violence.

You gotta love it.

It's not up there with Nero
yachting with his whores as Rome burns
and blaming others,
but it's the same game.

They may get better at it
and top him yet.

RALEIGH, N.C. - The sprawling Wake County School District has long been a rarity. Some of its best, most diverse schools are in the poorest sections of this capital city. And its suburban schools, rather than being exclusive enclaves, include children whose parents cannot afford a house in the neighborhood.

But over the past year, a new majority-Republican school board backed by national tea party conservatives has set the district on a strikingly different course. Pledging to "say no to the social engineers!" it has abolished the policy behind one of the nation's most celebrated integration efforts.

And as the board moves toward a system in which students attend neighborhood schools, some members are embracing the provocative idea that concentrating poor children, who are usually minorities, in a few schools could have merits - logic that critics are blasting as a 21st-century case for segregation.

-- Washington Post/LJ

I knew we shouldn't have just laughed at the Teabaggers. They have been proving that they are for real for a long time now, and they keep on going and getting stronger. Instead of stars, we may need to consider putting swastikas in their place.

.......

In a way, the Koch brothers are simply fulfilling their father’s legacy. In 1958, Fred Koch — the founder of Koch Industries — joined a group of manufacturing executives and Robert Welch to found the John Birch Society, a virulent far-right group that dominated the civil rights debate. The John Birch Society organized an impeachment campaign against then-Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren for the Brown v. Board decision outlawing racial segregation, and mobilized its supporters to oppose integration of schools on the grounds that mixing black and white would lead to the “mongrelization” of the races. Fred supported the John Birch Society’s anti-civil rights campaign, and wrote a screed denouncing the civil rights movement as communist-inspired.

Charles and David did not only inherit an oil company, they inherited a political philosophy. The Tea Party movement, orchestrated by AFP and other Koch fronts, reflects the paranoid style of the movement started by their father, Fred. As Thom Hartmann has explained, corporate interests have long funded far-right, paranoid movements to continually shift the balance of politics in America. The radical right creates political space for corporate candidates like Richard Nixon or Mitt Romney to appear “moderate” in contrast. David Koch, it should be noted, actually supports Romney for president in 2012 even though David’s fronts have spent the last two years boosting reactionaries like Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).

Israel beckons tourists to Virgin Mary sites

Maybe the love of money is the root of all evil, but money can also do some good things, such as bridge peoples of different faith.

Because of Father's shutting the power on and off and on and off and on and off, I got unsynchronized with the clocks, and got faked into losing an hour, so that my TV dinner is going to be ready an hour ahead of time. But what really made it work is that I was feeling hungry already. Maybe my stomach got faked out, too. I just hope Chris Matthews has a good show this evening.

Some studies on the alleged relationship [between rhetorical and actual violence]. They conflict. But actual violence has been declining very swiftly in the US in the past decade or so, as measured by rates of assault. Ever since Grand Theft Auto came on the scene.

-- Andrew Sullivan

Sometimes Sully is so cool. If love cannot rule your heart, a good catharsis may be the next best thing.

Wow, in giving his Tucson speech on behalf of the victims of the Arizona shooting, Obama refreshens our faith in this country in electing the right man to be president. I don't know if he can bargain strongly and be a forceful executive, but he has a grand soul and the heart of a poet, and there probably isn't another contender who could do a better job. It's a tough and challenging time.
