The Cats in Summer
Jun. 18th, 2010 03:05 pm“Are you sure you want to go out there? It’s hot. But if you want it, you can have it.”
Coco is sure and I slide the door open, letting her run outside. The temperature is still in the low nineties at this early point in the summer, but it is more than hot enough for me, and I would think it only more so for furred critters. I know Bo shared my sensibilities on this score, preferring to doze in the air-conditioned comfort, but it is an oft learned lesson that cats are not like us - dogs and humans being more kindred in spirit.
The thing about Coco, though, is that I think she is refined enough to prefer the cooler indoors over the southwestern heat outside. The problem is that her feline companions, Ash and Sammy, cannot get enough of that nature in the raw, opting to burrow in the dirt for a little coolness. Coco used to stay indoors alone, through the mornings at least, and I would pay her some extra attention, wanting to encourage her preference for the house, but my attentions apparently are not enough for her. I guess I’m just not a cat, and Coco would rather suffer the heat than the loneliness.
