Susanna has expressed surprise that Lear is not one of my top favorites. I shared with her, albeit obliquely, that the play perhaps strikes too close to home, and as we now study Lear's failing struggle with madness, I see how too true it is that Lear is much too personal for me to simply enjoy. Of course, I was never a king, but I was on a much more royal road than this field of weeds I live on.

O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven!
Keep me in temper; I would not be mad!

WASHINGTON – Minorities make up nearly half the children born in the U.S., part of a historic trend in which minorities are expected to become the U.S. majority over the next 40 years.

In fact, demographers say this year could be the "tipping point" when the number of babies born to minorities outnumbers that of babies born to whites.

...

"Census projections suggest America may become a minority-majority country by the middle of the century. For America's children, the future is now," said Kenneth Johnson, a sociology professor at the University of New Hampshire who researched many of the racial trends in a paper being released Wednesday.

Ay, but what does it mean to be a majority population without property and wealth, that is the red, white, and blue question.

I still get nervous
when I let the cats out
and don't see Coco for hours,
the charmed beauty in our midst.
