As I struggle through my feelings of black despair this morning that I will never know love, neither womanly nor divine, it occurs to me that a good novel might be the answer. I love "Nixonland," and although I didn't expect this much treatment on the sixties, I am glad to get it, and to see the deep and vital roots of our Culture War, the Red and Blue Americas, but I need the emotional therapy that only good fiction can offer. But I'm going to have to hold out until the next library trip, because I am committed to finishing this book by its next due date, which will be a challenge - no breaks for quick fiction.
