MicroSuck Strikes Again
Aug. 29th, 2008 10:42 pmThis morning I got a prompt to install a Windows update, a big one, Service Pack 3. It's automatic with me; they tell me to install this important update, who am I to argue? Afterward, I have to restart the computer, which is also typical. But then the nightmare begins. Windows won't run anymore on my computer!
I should have followed this guy's advice not to be so quick about installing the thing, but to wait until other users battle test the software for a couple of months. In truth, though, even if I had that advice in my pocket before receiving the update notice, I would have pressed my luck. So hapless am I, I couldn't be sure about having access to the service pack later.
So, we're a one-computer home again, and I'm at the mercy of the techno-gods to restore my machine. It's nice to know that even after Bill Gates has left running the company, the suckage continues. It's enough to turn one into a Mac guy.
