MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — The perks of working at Google are the envy of Silicon Valley. Unlimited amounts of free chef-prepared food at all times of day. A climbing wall, a volleyball court and two lap pools. On-site car washes, oil changes and haircuts, not to mention free doctor checkups.

But the biggest perk may come with the morning commute.

-- Miguel Helft for The New York Times

Working at Google isn't just a job; it's a cult. Funny, I've heard the same thing about Apple.

The story is about the big bus system that Google offers its disciples. I find it especially interesting that this seems to be the way of the world for all the big Internet players, including Yahoo, e-bay, Intel, Oracle, and Microsoft.

Oh, mommas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys; let them be doctors, lawyers, and software engineers and such...

It is a real letdown to my week when Maureen Dowd goes on leave or vacation, which seems to happen rather often. I'm afraid I'm a little bit in love...

And she is about as expensive as phone sex.

Fox News is still becoming more the political story, rather than just reporting and letting us decide. The controversy in question was sparked by a statement made by Roger Ailes, the Fox chairman, joking in his own Coulterish way associating Obama with the terrorists, “It is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don’t know if it’s true that President Bush called Musharraf and said, ‘Why can’t we catch this guy?’”

Fox was going to sponsor a debate among the Democratic presidential candidates, but the debate host, the Nevada Democratic Caucus, has now dropped the Fox debate, citiing Fox bias and Mr. Ailes' statement.

In return:

David Rhodes, vice president for Fox News, said in a statement: “News organizations will want to think twice before getting involved in the Nevada Democratic Caucus, which appears to be controlled by radical fringe out-of-state interest groups, not the Nevada Democratic Party. In the past, MoveOn.org has said they ‘own’ the Democratic Party. While most Democrats don’t agree with that, it’s clearly the case in Nevada.”
Yeah, this isn't really news, but it only becomes clearer that Fox News is, first, a political player for the Republican Party and, second, a news agency. This is not the equivalent of CNN or even MSNBC News. It makes the game more interesting.
