Quiet Day

Wow, I finished my news harvesting already and I got absolutely nothing from it. And my night was dream-free and free of mischief. It looks like it is going to be a very quiet day. One of those Fridays that loses its place in line to Saturday.

Listening and swaying in circles, mouthing the lyrics to Elvis' ribald rocker "Santa Claus Is Back In Town," Monk thinks again about why he should be so captivated by the Elvis music and legend. Maybe it is to have the power to make the pretty little kittens meow.

“Chandler did not write about crime, or detection - as he insisted he did not. He wrote about the corruption of the human spirit, using Philip Marlowe as his disapproving angel, and he knew about it, down to the marrow.”

-- George V. Higgins

Ah, just the way I like my prose - smooth and nasty.

___ ___ ___

I liked Higgins' blurb so much that I did some quick googling and found this cutting thought of his about being a writer:

If you do not seek to publish what you have written, then you are not a writer and you never will be.
Ouch! I wonder if blogging counts. Probably not. I suppose people have to care to part with some of their money for your lays and sighs. But whatever gets you through the day.

An LJer was gracious enough to post these uncensored pictures at that celebrity community. These are the pictures that got Katie Rees stripped of her Miss Nevada title, though 'stripped' may be a loaded term. She is the hottie in red.

I was surprised by the critical moralistic tone of the discussion on LJ, sounding like the grey-haired old ladies of the Southern Baptist Convention. I would have expected more understanding on the part of young and rather liberal LJers.

I look at those pictures, and it is not condemnation that comes to mind. Even when I was young, I was not cool enough to be a part of that scene. In fact, one of the big reasons why I do not believe in religion is because, if there were a Heaven, it would have to look like what is in those pictures, and I just cannot believe that Heaven would be like that. Let the jihadist Muslims have their virgins, I want Miss Nevada and friends!
