“Stunning coincidence. The verdict in the long-running trial of Saddam Hussein in Iraq is now due two days before our congressional elections in November. Astounding. How ineffable.”

-- Molly Ivins for CNN.com

I don't know about ineffable, but this is one of the reasons I love to watch politics. Sure, that can seem rather small minded, considering that we are talking about the welfare of peoples, but after a while, you realize that you may as well enjoy the entertainment value of it all - an almost godly perspective.

Besides, the way things are going for the Republicans, Saddam may very well get pronounced not guilty. As I recall, the judge has already decided that Saddam was not a dictator. Did I mention the entertainment value?

"He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country," said Marine General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

If nothing else, I would hope that this Administration has amply demonstrated the limitations of faith-based governance. We really need to go back to some of that hard Anglo-American empirical stuff. Less talk with God and more study of the facts on the ground.
