It Can Still Rain

The weeks and weeks of bone-dry, centigrade days was broken today. The skies were dark and heavy enough that Monk took his umbrella instead of the baseball bat on his walk this morning, though he supposed that this was wishful thinking, and it actually started drizzling on his way home from the duck pond.
And it did not just die out. The rain became a good shower later in the morning. Since then, it has been misty and showery by turns. We need a lot more rain than this, and it is not clear that we are going to get it, but at least we know that it can still rain in this region.
Still, the skies have remained so thickly overcast that we have been comfortably able to go without the air-conditioner today. One is pleasantly reminded how nice and refreshing it is to have naturally cool air rather than the constantly manufactured stuff. One feels more alive.
